Accounts are for adults
Only adults may register. Accounts are for parents, guardians, teachers and gift-buyers. We do not create logins for children.
Child profiles hold the minimum
A child profile stores a first name or nickname and an age range. Nothing more. Child profiles are never public and are never used for advertising.
Lists are private by default
A list only becomes reachable by link when you choose to share it. Shared lists show the list name and books, never a child's details. You can unshare at any time, which invalidates the link.
Reviews are moderated
Reviews are written by adult account holders and checked by a moderator before they appear. We publish a display name only.
Cookies and analytics
We use essential cookies for sign-in and aggregate analytics to understand which pages are useful. No third-party advertising trackers.
Outbound links
Retailer and library links take you to third parties with their own policies. Some retailer links are affiliate links, which may earn us a commission at no cost to you.
Finding a UK library
When a signed-in adult chooses to look up a UK postcode, First Reads sends that postcode to Postcodes.io to identify the relevant administrative area. The postcode is not stored in the First Reads account or database. Postcodes.io processes the lookup under its own privacy terms.
Deleting your data
You can delete a child profile, a list or your whole account from account settings. Deleting an account removes shelves, lists and child profiles permanently.
